The Myth of Perfectionism

A few days ago, while following up with a brilliant entrepreneur whom I am mentoring for their startup, they mentioned that if things aren’t 100% right, they prefer not to do them at all.

This mindset, while well-intentioned, can actually hinder growth when building a business or developing a product. The pursuit of perfection often leads to inaction, missed opportunities, and a lack of progress.

Perfectionism is a fancy word that some people believe is good for them, while in reality, it is the biggest block to steady progress.

I mentioned Voltaire’s quote, “The best is the enemy of good,” which resonated with them. It’s important to take steps forward, even if they aren’t perfect. Iteration, feedback, and continuous improvement are the keys to success.

Don’t let the fear of imperfection stop you from making progress. Start now, refine as you go, and you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve.
