I Put AI on Trial

In my recent TEDx talk, I put AI on trial.

The purpose was to test our readiness for the harder questions.

Who is responsible when an AI system causes harm?

The audience acted as the jury. After reviewing four cases, they reached a verdict.

AI was not guilty.

But how can we punish AI?

AI follows the direction we give it. The quality of its outcomes depends on our judgment, our goals, and our strategy.

This is why AI strategy and governance matter.

Organizations often focus on what AI can do. The harder work is deciding why it should do, how it should be controlled, and who remains accountable when something goes wrong.

The same applies to individuals.

AI can help us learn, think, create, and make better decisions. It can also become a shortcut that slowly replaces our own judgment.

The technology will continue to improve.

The real question is how we will improve because of it without losing our compass, without losing our humanity.
