I started writing this novel in 2018, after a fire destroyed my home. Standing outside the building, still smelling the smoke, I found myself asking:

Who am I without all the materialistic things I thought defined me?

At first, I thought I had lost everything. But then I reflected on it more deeply. Did I really lose anything? My family was safe, and so was everyone else in the building. So what did I really lose?

The printed photos that I thought stored my memories?

The cars parked in the building, one already half-burnt?

The tech gadgets I loved to buy?

The official documents I thought were protected?

My favorite shirt or jacket?

Worry consumed me. My mind raced with questions, anxieties, and uncertainty.

But then something shifted. A moment of clarity broke through:

Were these things really that important?

No. The reality is:

The most important things in life...are not things.

I was safe. My family was safe. I was surrounded by friends who showed up immediately, offering help and support.

And yet, a question kept lingering in my mind:

Do we define ourselves by what we worry about?

This question turned into a story that took five years to write and an additional two years for editing and publishing.

Memories of a Future explores what defines us and how worry plays a role in shaping our identity over time, across societies, and through personal evolution. Through the interconnected stories spanning 20,000 years of the past, present, and future, we see the constant struggle between survival, self-discovery, and the influence of our memories and past experiences on shaping our future.

  • In 17,418 BC, Zunty, a hunter faced with survival, wonders if his tribe can endure the harsh winter.

  • In 2,418 AD, Adam, a curious boy in a seemingly perfect world, questions the price humanity paid for its idealistic realism.

  • In 2018 AD, Pamela’s dreams slip away as her life is consumed by the daily grind, leaving her in constant chase of a tomorrow that never comes.

Each character faces their own unique challenges, shaped by their environment, culture, and era, yet unified by the timeless nature of worry. Whether it’s the fear of losing loved ones, the burden of societal expectations, or the relentless pursuit of an imaginary future.

This novel explores how our internal fears shape our decisions, revealing that across all timelines, worry is both a barrier and a door to our deepest selves and our journey of growth.
